Pastor, Family Killed in Fresh Plateau Attack

Gunmen have struck again in Plateau State, killing a pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), his wife, and their two children in Gako village, Rim Ward, Riyom Local Government Area.

The victims were identified as Rev. Ayuba Choji, his wife Chundung Ayuba, and their children Cyril Ayuba and Endurance Ayuba.

Residents said the attackers stormed the community around 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026, firing sporadically and forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes.

Community member Martha Dalyop described the incident as part of a recurring wave of violence that has left residents in constant fear. She noted that many villagers can no longer sleep in their homes or freely farm due to repeated attacks.

Confirming the incident, Rwang Tengwong, publicity secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder Association, said the attackers appeared to operate in coordinated groups. While one group targeted residents, others destroyed farmlands or blocked escape routes.

Within the past 48 hours, large portions of farmland—including maize, cabbage, and hot pepper crops—were destroyed in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. Tengwong warned that such destruction is worsening food insecurity in affected communities.

The attack adds to the growing list of violent incidents in Plateau State, highlighting the urgent need for stronger security measures and lasting peace solutions.
