The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has sounded a serious alarm, claiming that terrorist groups have infiltrated at least 40 council areas across the South‑West region of Nigeria.

Adams, who has long been vocal about security challenges in the region, said the infiltration poses a grave threat to communities and requires urgent government action. He stressed that the presence of armed groups in local council areas could destabilize rural communities, disrupt economic activities, and endanger lives.

According to Adams, intelligence reports suggest that terrorists are exploiting porous borders and weak local security structures to establish hidden bases. He urged both federal and state governments to intensify surveillance, strengthen community policing, and collaborate with traditional institutions to counter the threat.

His alarm comes amid broader concerns about insecurity in Nigeria, where banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency have spread beyond the North into other regions. The South‑West, traditionally considered more stable, has in recent years faced rising cases of abductions and violent attacks along highways and rural settlements.
