Nigerian social media influencer and activist Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, has satisfied nearly all court-imposed bail conditions but continues to remain in detention over a passport dispute involving the Department of State Services (DSS).

Justice Crack, a blogger and social media commentator who gained widespread public attention for his outspoken criticism of government institutions, was arrested in late April 2026 following the circulation of viral videos in which Nigerian soldiers were seen complaining about poor feeding and welfare conditions in conflict zones. The Nigerian Army subsequently claimed that his interactions with the soldiers extended beyond welfare concerns and amounted to subversion, alleging that he had incited discontent within the ranks. He was initially detained by soldiers before being handed over to the DSS, who arraigned him in court on charges of cybercrime, breach of public peace, and felony.

His legal team reports that the only outstanding bail condition is the submission of his international passport — a document currently in the possession of the DSS, which has allegedly refused to return it despite repeated requests from his lawyers. The refusal has effectively rendered full bail compliance impossible, raising serious concerns about the agency's conduct and its apparent disregard for the court's ruling.

Legal observers and rights advocates are now questioning whether the bail conditions were deliberately structured to prevent compliance, with some describing his continued detention as a violation of his fundamental rights and a direct undermining of judicial authority.

The DSS has not issued any public statement explaining its refusal to release the passport.
