Abuja Barber Sues Police, Bwari DPO for ₦1 Billion

An Abuja-based barber has filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bwari, alleging that he lost an eye after being struck by a tear gas canister during a police operation.

According to reports, the barber claims the incident occurred when officers fired tear gas indiscriminately, leading to severe injury that cost him his sight in one eye. He argues that the police acted negligently and violated his fundamental rights, prompting him to seek damages in court.

The lawsuit, now before the Federal High Court, demands compensation for medical expenses, loss of livelihood, and emotional trauma. The case has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about police brutality and the excessive use of force in Nigeria.
