Tension erupted in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday as a mob set ablaze campaign posters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

A video circulating on social media showed a group of youths burning posters bearing the images of the two politicians amid chants and commotion.

The unrest also involved the NDC chairman in Ungogo, Bilyaminu Bachirawa, who was allegedly dragged from a moving motorcycle during the chaos. Reports say he narrowly escaped being lynched as angry youths pursued the motorcycle while shouting and attempting to attack him.

The circumstances that triggered the confrontation remain unclear. However, the incident comes just 48 hours after the NDC formally unveiled Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Shortly after securing the ticket, Obi announced Kwankwaso as his running mate, marking a significant political alliance.

Both Obi and Kwankwaso had recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, citing internal disagreements and prolonged legal disputes within their former party.
