The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has denounced the reported demand by kidnappers in Oyo State that Sharia law be implemented as a condition for releasing abducted teachers and pupils.

In a statement, NACOMYO described the claim as deceptive and misleading, stressing that terrorism and kidnapping are grave sins in Islam. The council emphasized that such criminal acts cannot be justified under any religious pretext, noting that Islam stands for peace, justice, and protection of human life.

NACOMYO further urged Nigerians not to be misled by the kidnappers’ demands, insisting that they do not represent Islam. The group called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Community leaders also appealed for unity among citizens, warning that criminals often exploit religion to advance their own agendas.
