Political commentator Prince Adini has described former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as an “IPOB apologist”, accusing him of repeatedly expressing sympathy for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking on the Echo Room podcast, Adini argued that Obi’s public remarks questioning the basis for Kanu’s prosecution amounted to support for the group’s cause, though he acknowledged that Obi had not been accused of being a member.

> “All you can accuse him of is sympathizing with them. That you can accuse Obi of, sympathizing with IPOB,” Adini said.

He cited Obi’s past comments suggesting that IPOB members should not be regarded as criminals, and noted that despite such remarks, the Nigerian government had not taken action against him.

Adini further linked IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to violence in the South‑East, alleging that many lives had been lost, including the recent killing of two Catholic priests.

> “Two priests were k+lled, and ESN came out and said, ‘we k+lled them.’ And who set up ESN? Nnamdi Kanu,” he claimed.

While insisting that Obi’s statements reflected personal opinion, Adini maintained they showed sympathy toward IPOB.

> “We know he’s an apologist of IPOB, but has the government arrested him?” he added.
