A self‑proclaimed repentant Boko Haram member has appealed to Nigerians for forgiveness, insisting that many fighters did not join the insurgent group voluntarily.
Speaking during a rehabilitation programme, the ex‑fighter admitted involvement in violent activities but pleaded for acceptance back into society.
> “We did not join voluntarily. I beg Nigerians to forgive us and accept us,” he said.
Authorities confirmed that the individual is among those undergoing deradicalisation and reintegration under government initiatives aimed at restoring peace in the North‑East.
Officials stressed that community acceptance remains critical to ensuring lasting stability and preventing re‑radicalisation.
