Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has disclosed that leaders from the South‑East are actively pursuing political approaches to facilitate the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking on regional stability, Umahi emphasized that the initiative is not only about securing Kanu’s freedom but also about sustaining peace and unity across the South‑East. He noted that dialogue and political engagement remain the preferred tools for resolving the matter.

Umahi also clarified Ebonyi State’s political alignment, stating that the state is not part of the Obidient Movement. Instead, he insisted that both Ebonyi and the wider South‑East remain supportive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, underscoring loyalty to the current federal leadership.
