A viral video has sparked outrage after showing armed gunmen passing without obstruction through a police checkpoint along the Zamfara–Sokoto axis.
In the footage obtained by SaharaTV, a large number of gunmen carrying weapons were seen riding motorcycles through the checkpoint while police officers appeared to direct and hail them as they passed.
A man recording the video was heard in Hausa saying: “Bandits with their weapons are moving freely.” Another occupant quickly cautioned him, saying: “Please keep quiet, why are you talking?”
Security sources confirmed the incident occurred recently along the Zamfara–Sokoto corridor, a region plagued by banditry and insecurity. Despite the deployment of security personnel, bandit groups continue to carry out deadly attacks and kidnappings across Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and Niger states.
The video has intensified public anger, with many Nigerians questioning the role of law enforcement and demanding accountability for officers seen in the footage. Analysts warn that such incidents erode trust in security institutions and embolden criminal networks.
