Popular Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni has openly challenged the Nigeria Police Force’s explanation of a viral video showing heavily armed men riding motorcycles in Katsina State while police officers appeared to wave at them.

The video, which sparked outrage online, showed dozens of men carrying what appeared to be sophisticated weapons as they moved in a convoy. In response, the police dismissed claims that the men were bandits, insisting they were members of a local vigilante group and describing reports linking them to banditry as “false, malicious, and misleading.”

But Oseni strongly disagreed, saying the explanation raised more questions than answers. “Who signed that police statement? CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu. You think we are fools? We are not fools.” He questioned how vigilantes could allegedly possess such a large number of motorcycles and advanced weapons, asking: “So are you telling me now that vigilantes are more equipped than the police in this country?”

He further expressed disbelief, pointing out that the men appeared to be carrying high‑calibre weapons rather than the cutlasses or dane guns typically associated with vigilante groups. “Look at those big guns. Not cutlasses. Not dane guns. These are sophisticated weapons.”

Oseni also criticized the police spokesperson’s statement, suggesting it was difficult for Nigerians to accept. “Next time, just say it’s AI. It would be an easier lie than telling Nigerians this and expecting them to believe it.”

He concluded that the situation highlights deeper concerns about security and transparency, insisting that Nigerians deserve clear and credible explanations regarding incidents that affect public safety.
