Remi Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria, has urged Nigerians to embrace small‑scale businesses that require little capital, citing examples such as selling akara, roasting corn, or producing kuli‑kuli.
She explained that her office has been supporting grassroots entrepreneurship through grants, saying: “To start akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn or kuli‑kuli doesn’t take much. We have encouraged Nigerians as best as we could, we have given people a grant, I also gave to several others.”
Her remarks reflect a broader push to encourage micro‑businesses as a way to tackle unemployment and economic hardship, especially at the community level where food‑based ventures remain culturally significant and accessible.
