South African activist Nkosikhona Ndabandaba, popularly known as Phakel’umthakathi, has announced plans to tour several African countries following recent demonstrations against undocumented migrants in South Africa.

He explained that the trip is intended to “revive the spirit of Ubuntu” by engaging with people who have returned to their home countries after leaving South Africa. Ndabandaba said he wants to check on their wellbeing and encourage Africans to remain in their own countries, contributing to local development rather than migrating elsewhere.

The announcement comes on the heels of a June 30 deadline issued by anti‑migrant groups demanding undocumented foreign nationals leave South Africa. Weeks of protests and marches have highlighted growing tensions around migration, with Ndabandaba positioning his tour as both a continuation of activism and a call for continental solidarity.
