An online petition demanding Argentina be permanently banned from future FIFA World Cups has closed with 23,316,108 signatures from around 170 countries, making it one of the largest sports-related campaigns ever organized online. The petition, titled "Argentina Out" and hosted on ArgentinaOut.com — a site with no official ties to FIFA or any national federation — gained momentum after Argentina's loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final on July 19.

Organizers had initially set a target of just 5 million signatures. The petition accused FIFA and match officials of bias toward Argentina and Lionel Messi, arguing the tournament outcome felt predetermined and calling for Argentina's exclusion to give other teams "a fair chance." Criticism of the Argentine squad intensified after their semi-final win, when players displayed a political banner referencing the Falkland Islands, and after the final, when Leandro Paredes was reported to have confronted Spanish players and much of the Argentine squad reportedly skipped the trophy presentation.

Despite its scale, the petition carries no legal or sporting authority — FIFA's disciplinary process does not include any mechanism by which a public petition can suspend or expel a team, and FIFA has not announced any action against Argentina in connection with the tournament. The final tally fell roughly one million signatures short of the Guinness World Record for largest petition, held by the 1997 Jubilee 2000 debt-relief campaign at over 24 million.

The petition closed once Spain beat Argentina in the final, with organizers signing off: "FIFA ignored us but Spain delivered." A smaller counter-petition from Argentine supporters, alleging "rigged refereeing" and calling for the final to be replayed, has gathered about 80,000 signatures. Argentina remains scheduled to co-host the next World Cup, marking the tournament's 100th anniversary.
