Nigerian highlife singer Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour, has recounted a humbling early-career experience involving the now-defunct duo P-Square, in a recent podcast appearance. He said he was performing at his regular spot, City Centre in Enugu, where he had built a loyal weekend following, when P-Square arrived to promote their hit single "Temptation." The venue's manager immediately told him to cut his set short.

"I was performing one time when P-Square came in, and the manager of the place told me to leave the stage immediately," Flavour said. "I switched off my mic and went and sat down somewhere. Ladies were screaming and cheering wildly the moment Paul of P-Square took the mic and began singing 'Temptation.'" He recalled wondering, in that moment, whether he and P-Square were even making the same kind of music, given how differently the crowd reacted.

Flavour said the humiliation didn't discourage him — instead, he used it as motivation to work harder and stay consistent, a mindset that helped shape his eventual rise as one of Nigeria's leading highlife artists.
