MTN Confirms 25GB Free Data, Warns Subscribers Against Fake Links

MTN Nigeria has confirmed that the 25GB data reward marking its 25th anniversary is genuine, even as it warned subscribers against fraudulent platforms and links circulating online offering fake versions of the same giveaway.

The warning, issued via MTN's official support account on X on Saturday, followed a wave of unauthorized messages and links on social media claiming to offer subscribers free 25GB data. "Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online," the company said, stressing that the genuine offer is available only through the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop, or via the link contained in the official SMS notification sent directly by MTN.

The telecom operator urged customers not to click on suspicious links, share personal information, or make payments on any other platform claiming to offer the giveaway, warning that fraudsters appeared to be exploiting the real promotion's credibility to make scam offers look authentic. A source at MTN separately confirmed to Vanguard that the company had indeed distributed 25GB of free data to subscribers as part of its anniversary activities.

Eligible subscribers can redeem the offer by logging into the MyMTN App and tapping "Redeem Now" on the anniversary banner. MTN said the bundle remains valid until 11:59pm on the stated expiry date, and urged eligible customers to redeem it before then. The company noted it has previously flagged similar fake data offers, reiterating that any promotion requiring users to submit personal details on third-party websites should be treated as fraudulent.
